Summary:
G. Pawolski was encountered on two occasions sporting heavy weapons in a meta-gaming way. An M41 SSR launcher was used for close quarters combat because, as was quoted in Discord's Halostation server - "I mean yeah I use the rocket launcher I'm not saying it isn't busted (5/26/2017 10:31PM)" and "no big secret its stupid good (5/26/2019 10:31PM)." This was not once but twice, on two separate occasions (~1015PM 10/26/2019 and ~1:15AM 10/27/2019). Rockets were carried solely for the purpose of being 'busted' in the terms of IC damage with no other IC reason noted - no antitank purposes, no designs for antiair. This was not against heavily armored targets. This was not against covenant forces. This was against - one (1) URF regular and one (1) ONI security guard. According to the player's paraphrased reasons, it was solely for the purpose of metagaming - using overbearing weaponry known to knock players out of the round without IC justification purely to win an engagement. Therefore, I move to have the player momentarily blacklisted from UNSC roles. I won't ask for a ban but I want some punishment for using blatant, LRP metagaming to 'win the game' against other players trying to enjoy a roleplaying experience. This is poor sportsmanship, poor play style, and poor conduct.
Full ban reason:Â
Shot an ONI guard as Marine with a bs reason
Appeal details/ Why should you be unbanned:Â
Round was pretty unorthodox, with the whole prisoner towel beating incident, the unintentional friendly-fire incident that led to a marine's death, and the subsequent announcement of an inspection team coming to the Bertels. That last event in the round sparked a fun, hectic situation where we tried to clean up all evidence of war crimes and any other illegal happenings of the ship. This culminated with the sending off of an escape pod consisting of said evidence, including the crewman that accidentally killed a marine, to where-ever using an escape pod until the inspection team arrived.
Afterwards, the inspection team came, and upon talking to the prisoners, most of the marines on the Bertels decided to bolt out of fear that the inspection team would find evidence of our war crimes and, in response, punish us. I entered an escape pod with a few other marines and we landed on VT9. We were met immediately with hostility by the gate guards at the ONI complex, and realizing we had nowhere else to go we just ran around until we found another marine holed up in VT9's telecomms building. Some point after we ran off from the guards, there was an announcement that lethal force against us was authorized and the marines from the Bertels were charged with treason. Given how everything played out, we thought it appropriate to take control of the ONI base so we had a source of shelter while hiding from the UNSC hunting us down. This included a few other marines that managed to find their way to the building, and we made our way into the ONI base. Upon contact with one of the guards, we did not kill them or shoot them immediately. We told them to stand down and RP'd the situation. They did stand down, so we stripped them of their headset and cuffed them immediately.
After securing the first underground level of the ONI base, we made our way to the surface, and after securing most of the base, I came into contact with two other ONI guards with Garth Pawolski and we tried to tell them to stand down. However, one of the guards primed a grenade and opened the door, presumably to throw said grenade into the corridor we were in, so we opened fire on that guard and tried to push out. I'll admit that I fired one slug at the other guard, who (I think) was trying to recover their friend shot by a rocket. However, me and another marine, Sam Greene, yelled "STAND DOWN" and "SURRENDER" at them to ask them to drop their weapons and rest for capture and healing. They failed to comply, and assuming that meant they were going to remain hostile, we attacked them in the ONI base hangar and captured them afterwards for healing by a medic, Sam Clark. Given how the round played out, I thought this assault was appropriate and we were not aiming to permakill the ONI, just capture them so we could ensure safe haven in the facility. A PM while we were breaking through the numerous layers of doors would have sufficed to stop the assault.
However, I understand that we broke ROE with this blue-on-blue action. We should not have attacked the ONI base, even with the special circumstances of the round. I'll refrain from doing this stupid stuff in the future.
Full ban reason: "Attacking the ONI with a bs reason"
Appeal details/ Why should you be unbanned:Â The marines on the Bertels landed on the ONI planet after some sort of review. The ONI members we're pretty hostile so we hunkered down in the telecomms area. After a while some more marines arrived and they told us one of our marines was shot by an ONI guard. This spurred already rising tensions so the marines all agreed to move into the base. We proceeded into it from the Telecomms area and stumbled upon an ONI guard. We promptly took them prisoner without a shot fired as we weren't looking to kill anyone. We then locked the base area down so the ONI won't rush us. A command announcement drop'd saying the marines of the bertels we're found "Guilty and lethal force is authorized" At this point most of the Marines are exploring while Garth and Lother are up top. I get word that ONI is attacking and firing on us so i head up with an SRS. I scope in and see an ONI turn the corner and open fire on Garth while Garth fires back with a Rocket Launcher. The other ONI member grabs his comrade and drags him back as the three of us ask them to surrender over and over. They move out and we pursue. I put a single round into the ONI and they drop as we immediately start calling for our Marine medics to move in and we try to save these guys. I use some Biofoam on the one i shot while he complains in LOOC. The medic's too far away so we start grab both of them and move them to the medic who starts healing them. I believe this was a just IC reason for the marines to do what they did as the ONI had admin approval to attack us.
*YOU MAY NOT APPEAL BANS THAT LAST FOR 24 HOURS OR LESS. DO NOT MAKE A THREAD FOR THESE BANS. *We will contact other servers about your history, it may affect the ruling of your ban appeal
Appeal details/ Why should you be unbanned: I can virtually guarantee this issue was not investigated, as the ONI personnel in question had been given multiple opportunities to stand down, and continued hostilities before I had even attempted to shoot at them. In my eyes this was a justified conflict, and I don't understand why a staff member decided to step in and take control of the situation. I'm also unsure of why blox felt it necessary to simply skip straight to banning me, instead of asking me about the issue, or even explaining to me what I did was wrong.
For further context as to why me and numerous other marines in the round would even consider attacking ONI personnel, we'd broken multiple ROE's during the round due to going a little overboard with our assaults, and ended up being investigated by an ERT. The marines took the chance to evacuate the Bertels entirely due to knowing they'd most certainly be found out for their crimes, some of us landed on VT9 and were met with immediate hostility from ONI security, some of us even being shot at. We had no shuttle, no allies and nowhere to go so we used the comms relay tunnel to launch a surprise raid on the base, in an attempt to secure a living space and supplies. We gave all base personnel an opportunity to surrender without fighting and one guard did, the others we took down that did not comply were not executed and kept alive as captives. I feel the entire scenario was roleplayed out sufficiently and that admins on at the time had ample ability to stop us before before things got to be what they considered 'out of hand'.
I'd also like to petition for the unbanning of the other marines related to this incident, as none of them acted any differently to how I did, and feel they too have been wrongly banned.
Who were you banned by: thegreytide, yet PantasTheDank was the one who initially began talking to me about this.
Date of ban: 5/26/2019
Length of ban: Until Appeal
Full ban reason: "low rp,racisim, tryed to rule laywer, being hevily toxic" (Copypasted from the actual ban screen.) But in reality, the reasoning behind the ban will be explained in my appeal.Â
Appeal details/ Why should you be unbanned: Because I've done nothing to instigate such a reaction out of Pantas. I've got no idea why he didn't ban me himself, but I feel like the ban was more biased and politically motivated. I'm absolutely new to the server, and as I stated in my initial attempt to talk to Pantas, I did my best to roleplay as my charcater without causing discomfort to players and/or staff. I've been in more than a single sit, I've played more than one round, yet only Pantas seemed to have an issue with the way my character was roleplayed. He can't claim it was a low roleplay character, because I've barely had any interraction with other players due to him being alone most of the time, and the only interraction he did have was during the round he got banned, was him taking the piss of some other asian dude who spoke fake chinese over eband.Â
I NEVER tried to rule lawyer, I just said what my opinion was to Pantas himself, because the way he handled the sit was outrageous, he completely ignored the points I was trying to make, constantly claiming racism and stalking me through his admin powers as I killed some random cat because it kept on pushing me off my seat while I was trying to buckle myself to a chair. (A cat I then dragged to medbay and thought I could revive with the defib, but failed cause it only works on human players.) I was alone on the civilian cruiser, and didn't hurt anyone in-game other than that cat. Was I in the wrong for killing the cat? Sure, but it was In-character. Did I report that other dude that talked like a generic asian over eband? No, I just took it IC and parodied him. There's numerous people who aren't even asian or black, yet they play characters from all corners of the world and talk with "accents".
Characters;
>>>Pip, the ambitious but reliable Kig-Yar Major.
>NicNak, unggoy minor looking to impress his superior, unless it's low pop. If low pop, retiring unggoy that wants friendship.
>Nelle Stephenson, harmless colonist student there for the RP, usually a captive that doesn't SSD.
>Arqull Moss, impatient ONI guard with an occasional heart.
>Taylor Fullbloom, impressionable EVA marine learning the ropes.
>Jimmy Biery, successful janitor of freeing floors & walls from tyrannical debris.
>Peziah Ringer, weapons researcher experimenting on food in order to strike at the hearts of the enemy's stomachs, or "POWEEERRR!" obsessive. Still learning this role so nonessential focus, added memes so nobody expects much from me.
General character info; >Pip is my main, the others are just occasional flames.
>>>Pip is a cautious kig-yar major with a stunning history of being in the right place at the right time. Through personal experience and the loss of many comrades along the way, she's learned that the best path to living long is preparation, thoughtfulness, and a refusal to panic - this has brought her survival and many heretic kills despite inferior odds, including the heads of several Imps. Pip has ambitions to be a Shipmistress privateer, dreaming of capturing, then exploiting human vessels with a small, but dependable crew of her own. She may not be the fastest to the punch, but she tends to put the most consideration into her plans.
Reason for joining; >>>Pip is my main whenever I don't have some kind of plan of action going into the round, and covenant is the faction I always come back to regardless of what I mess around with. I'd like to join it properly because I know I'll spend a lot of time on it and want to try my hand at higher positions within - namely trying Shipmistress with Pip whenever that's suitable. No idea if Whitelisting is strict or not.
Roleplay Example/History; >>>About OOC, I've spent seven-ish years in RP groups with minor extras here and there. Started out as a co-leader of a Reach clan with a hundred or so people, my specialty was mapmaking/planning for the juvenile-level halo RP they were doing. Joined Bungie.net from its cancer Ebon Hawk RP days to when the community fell apart two or three years ago - in that time we branched off into private groups doing more sophisticated stuff, thousand word posts and etc for things that were dumb but occasionally cool, and I bounced around as an owner/admin/designer of some of the more ambitious stuff there. Stopped RPing for a while after that, drifted off to D&D, now a GM for a large public group looking to form my own smaller, private one soon. Made a lot of mistakes on all this stuff, trying to learn from them.
>>>About IC, Pip's history was blank coming in, and I've developed what's there purely around what's happened while playing her. Everything I claim with her (killing several ODSTs, muhreens, and an innie commando, along with surviving bad situations and some heroic moments) has happened in the server in a way I'm sticking true to. None of it's arbitrarily made up to sound cool; not that rObUsT either, it's just the kit that's good, things work out, and I'm pretty confident with it.
>>>I was writing up one of those stories to put here, but it was kinda a wall of text and I didn't see anyone else doing that for faction applications. Will add a story if this isn't enough.Â
More depth with factions details IE: roles, etc will be added later. >>>No idea what this is for.
Any SS13 Bans: Banned on Bad Deathclaw for being a retard on purpose.
Prior Moderation experience: At one point, while I played hardcore Gmod role play, staffed and occasionally ran various servers.
Personally, I think the most important thing about moderating is: I feel like the most important thing about moderating is communication. I feel like to be a good moderator, you must have a decent knowledge of the rules and an ability to communicate with the player base you moderate.
Any SS13 Bans: I've lost count. 4-5 times on Halostation. A few small bans here and there across servers.
Prior Moderation experience:Â Moderated several RP games, currently moderating another RP game.Â
Personally, I think the most important thing about moderating is: Keeping your personal opinion and what's wrong or right separate. As much as I've sharked and skirted before, if there's one thing I've learned, it's that as a role, there is two important things to moderation. One; Not allowing personal feelings to get in the way of your attempts to enforce the rules, and Two; Personally to me is, never be a part of a round you're moderating. I like to keep my job separate from my fun times, and I stay diligent and on duty when I'm moderating, and let myself relax and have leeway when I'm having fun (Aka, I flag down when I just want to play the game).
Above all else, I'd like to point out that despite my errors in the past, I've been working extremely hard to improve myself both as a person and as a gamer. New perspectives and new lifestyle changes have personally changed me, and I'd like you to give me a chance. But in the end, the choice is yours, and I won't be hurt or offended at all if you say no.
general character info: Bishop was a mechanic for various civilian shuttles and vehicles in the inner colonies, eventually enlisting as a junior technician in the UNSC.
Which role is your character's main(ex: Technician, Marine, etc): Technician.
