Hi! My name is Shark and I'm a die-hard fan of Halo.

If you need to get in contact with me, the best way to do so is via my Discord; SharkLordSatan#0314.

Anyway, this page is where I drop all my WIP shit.

So, You Wanna Play Halo: Space Station Evolved.

First off, this guide will assume that you know the basics behind playing Space Station 13. If you don't, then this guide will cover almost everything you need to know to start off. Also, please be sure to familiarize yourself with the server's rules, which you can find here.

Know the basics? Good! Let's get started. Let's start off by creating your characters, as you'll need multiple to get the maximum playability out of the server.

Making Your First Character!

When you first log in to the server, you'll be greeted with a window with multiple options. Click on Setup Character.

The character creation screen. Note that as of current this screencap is somewhat outdated, so some options/buttons may be missing.

After you clicked on that option, this window (to the right) will open. Here you can configure your character to your liking. Let's run through the options available.

At the very top of the page shows your options with the character slots. You can have up to ten different characters. Below that are different tabs for customizing specific aspects of your character. Ignore them for now, and focus on the "General" tab - the one we're looking at now. Here's a run-down list of all the options you'll see on this page. Note that some of these options may not be compatible with non-human races, such as Sangheili or Unggoy. Another thing to note is that characters do not carry over between certain gamemodes, so you'll need to recreate them as necessary if the server switches to a different mode.

Character Creation: General

  • NAME: The name of your character. You also have a option to randomize it. Note that if you choose a name of your own making, that it must comply with these rules:
  1. It cannot be the same name as a canonical character in Halo lore. (i.e John-117, Thel 'Vadamee, Sgt. Avery Johnson, etc.)
  2. It cannot be based off a famous person's name. (i.e Barack Obama, Osama Bin Laden, Donald Trump, etc.)
  3. It cannot be a "meme" name. (i.e Dr. Coomer, Chungus, Chad Thundercock, etc.)
  4. It must be realistic to the setting/your species. A Human character wouldn't have a name that would be for a Sangheili, a Sangheili character wouldn't have a name that would be for an Unggoy, and so on.
  5. Names that start with things such as "Sgt." or "Dr." are fine. Having a nickname or title somewhere in the name (i.e Robert "Blitz" Dawson, Yayap the Brave) is also fine.

If you're having trouble coming up with names and find the randomized names to be lacking, you can refer to this website here and see if you can find anything you like. And, if you're not sure if a name is appropriate for your character, feel free to ask someone in-game or on the discord server for their opinion.

  • GENDER: The gender of your character. Choose between male or female.
  • AGE: Specify the age of your character. Minimum is 18, max is 80.
  • LANGUAGES: What languages your character knows. As a Human, you will know English as well as up to 2 other languages of your choosing. As any Covenant species, you will only know Sangheili as well as the language of your own species. Any languages you don't know will be heard as undecipherable gibberish.
  • SPECIES: Change the species of your character. Currently available species are Human, Jiralhanae, Kig-Yar, Sangheili, San'Shyuum, Tvaoan Kig-Yar, Unggoy, Yanme'e, ORION, and SPARTAN. Note that some of these species may be locked behind faction whitelists.
  • BLOOD TYPE: Change the blood type of your character.
  • SKIN TONE: Change the tone of your skin. Higher numbers are darker, while lower numbers are lighter.
  • NEEDS GLASSES: Choose whether your character has impaired vision and thus needs glasses.
  • ADJUST LIMBS: Choose what limbs on your body are replaced with prosthetics.
  • ADJUST ORGANS: Choose which specific organs you want to be assisted or synthetic.
  • HAIR: Change the style and color of your hair.
  • FACIAL HAIR: Change the style and color of your facial hair.
  • EYES: Change the color of your eyes.
  • BODY MARKINGS: Give yourself specific tattoos. Some tattoos may be non-functional.
  • EQUIPMENT: Change the style and color of your undergarments (bra/underwear/socks), what undershirt you have, and what style of backpack you have.
  • FLAVOR: Even more flavor info. You can assign flavor text for your character.

After we are done with this, we can move on to the next tab. To continue customizing your character you'll want to click on the tab titled "Occupations".

Character Creation: Occupations

The Occupations tab is where you essentially choose the job for your character. What type of job you can choose depends on whether your character is the correct species, the current gamemode of the round, and whether you have faction whitelists.

Some examples of jobs you might see available.

While there are too many individual roles to list here in a big ol' table, there are handy links you can click to view the roles available for each faction.

  • For the roles available as the UNSC, click here.
  • For the species and their respective roles available as the Covenant, click here.
  • For the roles available as the URF/Insurrection, click here.

Once you're done deciding what roles you want for your particular character, you're essentially done with the process! However there are some other tabs with other options, which we'll describe here for the sake of understanding them and whether they're really necessary or not.

Character Creation: Roles

Not to be confused with occupations, the roles tab allows you to assign yourself the chance to be randomly selected as a antag for a round much like in "normal" SS13 servers. However, this feature is deprecated and currently non-functional, so you should ignore this tab entirely as it will do nothing for you.

Character Creation: Loadout

Somewhat for flavor, this page allows you to give yourself specific, primarily cosmetic items to spawn with at the start of the game.

Character Creation: Global

Entirely non-related to character creation. These settings just affect OOC things like whether you can hear admin midis.

A Final Note for Character Creation

Finally, there are a couple of things to note regarding how the server handles characters.

If you die in combat, you will be able to respawn 5 minutes after ghosting. However, you will need to make sure that you aren't respawning as the same character - at minimum you need to change the name of your character before you respawn. If you accidentally respawn without changing the name, you are free to ahelp to have an admin rename you.

It is also very highly recommended that you make multiple characters, especially if you're planning on playing in the Covenant faction. Many roles (particularly in the Covenant) are locked behind species, so having multiple characters of different races will generally improve your experience.
