Vehicles

Vehicles are used heavily on the server and their purpose ranges from lightly armoured scout vehicles to massive tanks designed to breach fortifications. The use of vehicles can make or break a round for a certian side, if they are used well. This guide aims to inform you on everything you need to know about vehicles including, but not limited to

  1. Driving/Piloting any vehicle, including the various seats in a vehicle and their use
  2. how to repair and maintain your vehicle, both with and without the repair/rearm points given to each side
  3. how to unload/load cargo and occupants
  4. how to combat vehicles, and what to do if your vehicle is blown up.
  5. where to find vehicles on either side
  6. a comprehensive list of every vehicle, including certian useful stats, for every side (including cvillians and police)

This guide should cover all of this, and much more in an easy to understand and straightforward manner, with pictures where necessary.

Entering And Exiting a Vehicle

Before we can do most things with a vehicle, we must first learn how to get into and exit one. This can be done through multiple methods, some of which I will explain here. These ways are incredibly useful, and will likely be used in other parts of this guide too, be sure to note them down!

Help intent clicking

Easily the fastest way, by left clicking a vehicle whilst on help intent, you can quickly get into a vehicle. You will take the most important role available, so if there is no driver in the vehicle you will fill that first, then the gunner etc. extremely useful if you need to make a quick getaway, especailly since it puts you in the driver seat first.

Right clicking

Right clicking on an individual vehicle allows you to use the "Enter Vehicle" verb by hovering over it in the right click menu. This brings up a menu which allows you to choose what seat you would like to enter into, allowing you to choose your seat without needing to wait for the other roles to be filled in first. Want to sit in the back of a pelican without a driver or gunner? the right click menu is for you. This method can also be used on every intent, not just help intent.

The vehicle tab

This method, in all essence, is the exact same as the Right Click method, however it uses the special Vehicle tab found above the chat box. This method is arguably more useful than the Right Click method, as it gives you access to other vehicle specific verbs such as taking off and landing or turning on breaks, which will be covered later in this guide.

Driving/Piloting

Driving a vehicle is heavily reliant on momentum. The longer you go input a certian direction, the more momentum you get going in that direction. By switching the direction you apply momentum, you don't get rid of any of the momentum from the previous direction. This allows you to perform actions such as drifting by having a lot of momentum in a single direction and then turning left or right. Momentum gradually goes over time, which is dependant on the "drag" of the vehicle. You can increase the drag of a vehicle by applying the breaks, which stops the vehicle very fast and allows you to perform more precise movements (great for parking or navigating tight corridors). You can also disable the safties on the break, which decreases the drag of your vehicle, allowing you to drift for even longer.

Repairing Vehicles

when your Vehicle gets hit by bullets or dedicated anti tank weaponry, it is liable to take damage. You are unable to see this damage directly, you must use the dedicated "Inspect Components" verb first in order to see the remaining hitpoints on your vehicle, as well as the tools and materials needed to repair it. There are 2 different ways to repair a vehicle, both of which will be covered now

Vehicle Rearm/Repair Stations

These are by far the easiest and fastest way to repair vehicles, and the only current way to replenish the ammo in each vehicle. The only downside is their scarcity, only being found on troop transports and in each faction's home base. To use these, you simply fill them with the designated material (Steel for humans, Nanolaminate for Covenant) and then left click the station with an empty hand. This will bring up a window which will allow you to select the vehicle you wish repaired, at which point it will go to work repelenishing ammo and repairing damage. Make sure to check the vehicle after the Station ceases function to make sure it is all repaired, if not it is likely the station ran out of materials, and needs to be refilled again. To refill it, you simply click the station with the required material in your hand.

Repairing by hand

To repair a vehicle by hand, you must use the Inspect Compontents verb as talked about before. By doing this, it will show you the hitpoints the vehicle currently has, but more importantly it will tell you the required tools (such as a welder or wrench) and material (same as the Repair/Rearm Stations) needed to repair the vehicle. This can only be used to repair the hull of the vehicle and cannot be used to refill spent ammo in the vehicle, however it is the only way to field repair a vehicle, or repair it from it's destroyed state (which will be talked about in the combat section).

Cargo

Many vehicles also serve the secondary purpose of being able to store cargo, which is an extremely important ability and paramount to the attacking side of any scenario, as they will likely have to ferry troops and supplies down to the surface via their dedicated air troop transport ships. Lots of things can be loaded into the cargo hold of a vehicle, from vehicles, to infantry weapons, to crates full of supplies. Depending on the size of the object, the method of putting it into the cargo hold of a vehicle varies.

Small Objects

A small object in this case is an object you can pick up and hold in your hand slot. To put these objects into a vehicle, you click on the vehicle with the object in your hand (be careful, if you're off help intent and try to load a weapon in there you could end firing it!) at which point you'll be presented a confirmation box. By accepting, you'll put the object in the cargo hold.

Large Objects

A large object is an object which cannot be fit into your hand and must be carried. This can be anything from a small crate to a tank. To load one of these objects into the cargo hold of a vehicle, first move it next to the vehicle in question by dragging it, or driving it if it's a vehicle, then holding a click on the object and dragging it over to the vehicle you wish to load it into. There is no confirmation box this time, however it will take a small amount of time to load it.

Unloading Objects

so you've gotten your item into the vehicle, now how do you get it back out again? To do this, you have to use the specific "Remove Cargo" verb, via either the right click menu or the vehicle tab. This will bring up a menu with all the equipment currently loaded up. Select what you want and confirm it, at which point the requested equipment will be dropped on the floor near the vehicle.

Human Cargo

You can also load other players into vehicles by force, this can be useful if grabbing bodies for Research or for capturing prisoners for information. To load them in, you do the same method as a large object, however to get them out again you'll have to use the special "Remove Occupant" verb, which brings up a list of all the current occupants of a vehicle. Unloading a prisoner, otherwise, is the same as an object, just using a different verb.

Combat

As with most things on this server, Vehicles will most likely find themselves in combat, from the smallest ATV to the biggest tank, combat is inevitable. This section will cover the gunner seat some vehicles have, as well as the few vehicles where the passengers can actually shoot out, as well as what happens if you sit in a blown up vehicle.

The Gunner

being in the gunner seat of vehicles allows you access to the weapons system of any given vehicle. This can range from a chaingun to a 90mm tank shell. The method for firing all of these weapons is mostly the same however. First, you must have both hands free to operate a vehicle weapon. By getting into the gunner seat, you will be given a "weapon" in your hands, this is the vehicle weapon which will allow you to use it. You fire it like you would a normal weapon, however some of these weapons also have an alt fire mode in the form of secondary weapons (such as a hull chaingun on a tank). To switch to these weapons, you click the weapon in your hand, which will allow you to switch weapons at will. Be sure to switch weapons to best suit the situation you're in! you wouldn't want to shoot a tank shell at the enemy standing directly next to your tank and risk hitting yourself in the explosion, after all!

Passenger combat

In some vehicles, such as the air troop transports, the passenger occupants are unable to fire their weapons from inside. This isn't true for some vehicles however. Some vehicles, such as the troop transport warthogs, allow the occupants to fire from inside the vheicle. They can fire their weapons like they would normally, by having it in their hands and clicking where they want to fire. You can fire any weapon out of these occupant seats, from a pistol to a rocket launcher.

Taking damage

so we've covered offense out of these vehicles, but what about defense? Naturally, your enemy are going to fire back at your vehicle, and what exactly they fire back with will greatly impact the survivability of your vehicle. Dedicated AT weapons, such as the rocket launchers, do extra damage to vehicles, enough to destroy them in 2/3 hits. We'll cover the fully destroyed vehicles a bit later, but what about the people inside them? are they safe from the hail of bullets bouncing off the hull? well, it greatly depends on what vehicle you are using. Certian vehicles protect certian seats from taking any sort of damage. This includes the passengers in an air troop transport (but not the pilot) and the driver and gunner of a tank (but not the passengers). This does not apply to destroyed vehicles.

Destroyed states

so, they finally destroyed your vehicle. they did enough damage to render it's hitpoints to 0, at which point it will expload and hurt the occupants of said vehicle. In the case of an air vehicle, it will also send it to the ground, if flying. You may think this husk of a vehicle is not completely worthless and, in a sense, you are mostly right. However, whilst the vehicle may not be able to move, it's weapons are more than functional. You can still get into destroyed vehicles and use their guns, if need be, however note that ANY bullets that hit the hull of a destroyed vehicle have a 100% of hitting the occupants of said vehicle, even if the vehicle would have protected them from fire when not destroyed. When the battle is over, you can repair these destroyed wrecks using the same methods as described earlier in this guide (namely, the field repair one) to get the vehicles functioning again and able to move.

Vehicle Locations

Vehicle locations vary from map to map, however some main places vehicles will be will be hangers, which can store both ground and air vehicles, and garages found in ground bases. Most, if not all, bases and flagships on the server have some sort of vehicle compliment in order to boost the flexibility of a given faction during the round. these vehicles may need transportation out of said hanger using the same cargo system mentioned earlier, or they could just need a single door opened in order to drive out to join the frey. When in doubt, it is best to ask fellow members of your faction if they know where the vehicles are, or consult the map of the current base you're located in to find them.

Vehicle tables

This section will aim to break down important stats about each vehicle, split into faction specifics when needed and including unique features and other important information such as their max speed etc.
