Admin's CKEY/BYOND username: The_grey_tide

Details of complaint:
The majority of the evidence in this complaint is in regards to the events of a single round, however Mclovin has repeatedly caused issues which have generally been ignored or otherwise overlooked. Despite being head admin, he consistently does general admin abuse that while can be funny at times, is overdone to the point of being incredibly annoying or just otherwise disruptive. When confronted about it, he's generally dismissive. I haven't had any 'direct' issues with him and he's not a bad person, but at times it feels like he treats the server as a shitpost.

I will start by saying that a lot of the issues relating to the match stemmed from voice chat, which really shouldn't have been happening in the first place (This is partially an oversight on my part, but as head admin he should know when to use in-game tickets for generating logs). As the round was spicyextended, it's likely that people weren't taking it very seriously either, which really shouldn't be the ideal mindset for a game admin.

Initially I asked in staff voice chat if I could be given the ability to speak the brute's language so I could communicate with another player that apparently couldn't speak English. I made an ahelp, and Xor set themselves to handling the ticket after agreeing to roll a dice for it. Xor then gave me the language, but removed my ability to speak French.

Without saying anything, Mclovin then assigned me to become a cultist, completely against my role availability and without asking me beforehand, citing it as a 'trade for speaking Jiralhanae'. I have no idea how to play cultist, nor do I like playing antagonist roles, and I really just wanted to relax that round and enjoy something that wasn't constant TDM. I didn't want to start any problems, however, so I sort of just went along with it, trying to obey the 'avoid direct conflict' thing Spicyextended is all about due to another issue I had yesterday with Stingray (Which was just me not understanding the premise of the gamemode). Whoever my deity was kept spawning in random artifacts on me and stole my blood, giving me brain damage, and Mclovin had also given themselves the cultist role, building shrines in obvious places around the map.

Admin's CKEY/BYOND username: Sharklordsatan

Details of complaint: Essentially, ever since getting mod perms, shark's been on a personal crusade against anything that could be considered some kind of bigotry. Normally that'd be all well and good, but given how far she's overreached to the point of making about 12-18 of the most active players just up and ditch over goddamn brackets this is obviously going too far. 

The whole argument that the brackets are anti-semetic doesn't even work that well considering they're supposed to be used to mark a jewish person's name, which, well, they weren't. They were used on just about any word. Frankly I have a hard time seeing how you could spin danny saying smelly serbians as a jewish name. 

This isn't the first time shark's overreached either. Trying to ban the word retard as a slur against autistic people (even though nobody uses it that way) is the second time they've gone on a crusade against some random -ism which no-one really had a problem with. The whole shitshow around the word faggot as well; once again, that word was a-okay and completely fine, to the point where just about any staff member from the host, (former) co-host, head admins (when they existed anyway), head dev, devs, admins, mods, all didn't have a single problem with it and used it themselves. Now it's banned because, well, shark's afraid it might make a gay person feel uncomfortable. Hasn't been any actual complaints about it from gay people, just a shark issue. 

Which brings the whole argument full circle-the list of things shark is banning/jailing people for all seems to be a personal issue. That can be acceptable in some cases, but when it leads to half the active pop nuking itself rather than put up with shark's problems about them calling each other retarded or saying (((secret serbian flag))) is actually some form of antisemitism it starts to become a problem. Nobody likes an admin coming into a random conversation where everyone's having a good time and start threatening people with bans because they're creating an "toxic environment". If anything the admin's the only one causing a toxic environment, seeing as everyone else is just having a good time and the only reason the admin's there is to give players shit for practically nothing. 

Considering how rat was demodded and banned for less than causing 15 regulars to just outright ditch the server it's mental to think that shark pulling this is somehow okay because antisemitism or whatever.]]>

Details of complaint: My complaint is about how Koenigsegg handles Staff Reports and similar situations. More over, I don't believe he acts in a way the represents the Server and Admin Team well. This is also echoed by some others on the Admin team. But one complaint, one Staff Member.

Let's tackle these one at a time with examples. First, the most recent that stands out to me. Handling of the Staff Report against McLovin.



We have a staff report about a Admin/Mod promoting harassment of a member of this community. On top of harassing them via name changing. Harassment is harassment, first off. This has been noted before on the server and the Admins have no problem clamping down when it happens to "certain" people. Either the Admins follow the rule to the T, or not. Cherry picking what cases of harassment to punish and not punish exposes a dangerous duality of the Server Administration. Unless of course you are Koen handling a case regarding a buddy of yours like McLovin.





Case in point, Riley gets "vibe checked" and of course they did get real harassment I'm not disputing that. I'd go as far as to say Riley brought it on themselves with the constant Anime chat and memes, and playing into it by responding and not ignoring/blocking the people, you get my point though. But the Admins were on top on handling it. Going as far as to ban people who were doing and threaten an entire community to keep them from being harassed.

Not to mention Rule #6. Which is completely based on an Admin's tolerance to none server rule related conversation. Which is partly why I take this route with the Staff Report. I can't talk it out with Koenigsegg for fear I will be banned under Rule #6. Pretty easy to silence anyone who wants to speak out about problems in the Administration when you have a rule that bans anyone for trying to DM it to a member of Staff.



I bring this up because of Koen's handling of the SovietCyanide's Staff Report. Particularly a couple key notes in what he says. It isn't about the content someone is harassing someone with? Its about the person? This conflicts with what was done above when people were @Dr.Riley and Vibe check. Which saw the Administration clamp down on anyone posting @s and vibe checks directed at that person. Then instead of simply stating he would look into the issue, he lectures the person about his reputation. Profiling someone and taking a complaint they have (A valid one given how hated harassment is handled on Halo Station), instead of handling the harassment report? Doesn't sound like how an Head Admin should be dealing with Staff Reports. Isn't he suppose to take a impartial stance and not defame the victim, while he tries to defend his fellow Admin? Note this is a response after SovietCyanide's reply where he states he tried to ask Mclovin to stop via DMs. And the Admin evoked Rule #6 by telling him to "Fuck out of my DMs.". Guess you can't even tell your harasser to stop because you break the rules when doing so.

The problem is furthered by Koen simply writing this off as "You reap what you sow.". So basically, if you act badly you get what you deserve? He also writes of McLovin's actions as "Harmless" when contrary to how the Admin team handles other similar situations like @Dr.Riley and saying vibe check as Harassment? Further exposing hypocrisy among the rules and how the Administration handles cases. Further directing that this entire situation was against SovietCyanide because of his actions. Surely this couldn't be because he is best pals with McLovin and is handling this out of care for his friend instead of accounting this like a proper Head Admin.

I feel his actions and handling of Staff Report should be reviewed. Maybe Staff Reports need to be handled with more than one Admin in order to get a better census and reasoning than letting one Head handle it all with his opinions alone being the deciding factor. There is clearly a lack of oversight regarding these Staff reports.

Rules For Posting:

Disrespectful behavior unbecoming of a Head Administrator. Failure to enforce rules of the server and enforcing violation of rules of the server. Particularly, by condoning McLovin's behavior and stating the person he was harassing and promoting harassment against, got what he deserved for daring to question and speak out against an Admin. It's hard to say what rules, because there are no rules for Admins/Mods to follow listed. So how can you really report them for any rule breaks?
° No harassment of other players. If you have an issue you can take it to the player complaints forum. If you have nothing really to show there, then you likely have nothing of value to spout in OOC about them.

1. No useless/nonsense posts. 

Posts that aren't relevant in any way, shape or form will be deleted. Posts that don't contribute in any way will also be removed. Opinion posting will be removed.

If you're just posting to say you hate the admin in question, your post will be deleted. If you're just posting to say you think they're nice, your post will be deleted. 

DO NOT POST, UNLESS YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO CONTRIBUTE IN A USEFUL MANNER. Repeat offenders may be banned if it warrants it.

2. This is STRICTLY for complaints about staff.

This is not about how you should be unbanned. This is not about how you hate a member of staff for banning you. This is for complaints about how member of staff has acted during their duties..

3. Posts here will be taken very seriously. It is expected that the posts will be written seriously.

Callings names, acting immature, posting flame posts without evidence, etc. will not be taken seriously. This is expected from everyone posting in an admin complaint thread.

4. Threads should be limited to one incident only.

This helps prevent two issues. One is that multiple incidents can get easily mixed up in a thread and eventually devolve it into becoming a peanut gallery, and two, it ends up causing an effect that hides multiple incidents under the guise of one. If you have a separate incident, please make a new thread instead of tacking it onto another one.

5. Additional

Threads without a resolution in 24 hours may be bumped for a response.

Regardless of the outcome, making multiple complaints about the same admin repeatedly without good reason is not allowed.

By posting an official complaint, you acknowledge that you may very well get someone punished per the head administrators judgement, including but not limited to a removal of rank or a strike against the staff member in question. Details of complaint: Various days on the discord this has been an issue. Mclovin has been frequently changing my name and encouraging members of the playerbase to send me feetpics, despite be requesting him to stop multiple times.

Details of complaint: I'm starting this out by saying this is not a hit piece against Koen. I respect them as staff, and they've made many good decisions in the past, and having worked with them for a time, I respect their judgement. I'm not one for malice, and this isn't me whining about someone being mean. This is -not- a popularity/dick waving contest. This is a genuine issue I feel Koen has when dealing with the player base.

That being said,

Koenigsegg has been staff for as long as I can remember, and I think that this is a relatively new issue in the grand scheme of the server as a whole. They're rude, ban on first offense, try to justify less-than-chill actions, and have even gone on record saying they don't care what the players think. This is disturbing for a number of reasons, and I would be willing to attribute the slow death of Halo SSE at least, in part, to the actions of Koenigsegg. I'm aware this is a very strong claim, but I hope I'll be able to back it up well enough.

With that preamble out of the way, let's get down to brass tacks. I'll be listing off the issues I have with Koenigsegg, how they can improve, and hopefully, how we can prevent this with future staff. Here we go.

Part One: Mediation.
It's no secret to anyone Koen does not mediate well. They tend to go in with the intent to ban, and usually don't examine logs very well. The point of an admin should never, ever be to hand out bans, as your role as a moderator is just as important, if not more important. I know it can be tempting to smash the big red button when someone is being less then agreeable, because I nearly did it many, many times - especially when dealing with the URF. But banning people - often on first offense - is never the best option unless they are very obviously griefers. By overusing the ban function, it not only dissuades people from playing on the server, but it gives us a "Baystation" reputation -  The running gag about being banned for doing literally anything wrong even once.

As I mentioned before, this is not just a complaint list, as I also have solutions to offer. Simply put, there needs to be either a grace period, or better use of the note system- something I noticed Koen did not do while I was staff was religiously use notes on players. This means nobody knows who's a first timer who's confused and unsure of the rules, or what their roles entail - or someone who seeks only to cause trouble for the staff and playerbase for their own personal jollies. So, all in all, here's what we have.

1. Better Mediation, sorting out issues without using the big bad hammer of justice.
   
2. Less Banning, not banning on first offense or with subpar evidence.
   
3. Better Use of The Note System, as this will allow your fellow staff to better sort out who's an asshole and who's an asshole to a somewhat lesser degree.

They seem to have a hot temper, and added to the previously listed items, one can see how this has been a point of distress for a few of us. They do not reason with players, are unwilling to accept being wrong, and even handle admin situations relating to themselves - a pretty nasty practice for any server, let alone one with a war setting and set factions. This has lead to accusations of meta-communication, meta-gaming in general, favoritism, and meta-grudging. While I will not confirm or deny any of these, as I have not made these claims, I will bring my own claims to the table.

This is a snippet of OOC chat from a recent round where Koen bombed several vital locations on the colony as a lone insurrectionist, injuring civilians and destroying machinery. I'll be commenting on every one of these panels as I post them, and will note ahead of time that these may not be in order, as my evidence storing prowess leaves some to be desired without a doubt.
Koen admitted to random bombing as a URF regular, attacking civilians.

They stated it was okay, as it was giving people some action.

I mentioned there were other ways to get action, and they instantly wrote off the entire server population as being here for Leiben-Style PVP, having no interest in roleplay. I responded, stating that with or without admin, I managed to create interesting events as Johnny Reno which brought the URF, UNSC, Civilians - and even the Covenant, in a few rare cases, - together.

They correctly call me out for my rigidness, which is a fair complaint. I tend to have issues being flexible when it comes to uncomfortable situations. Yet, it still detracted from the point of the conversation. Not pictured here was what lead from the second to last message to the last message, where Koen mentioned they didn't remember me running any "events". I responded that just playing the game was enough to bring people together, if you did it right.  As far as the bombs themselves go, I've no reason to believe he spawned in the parts to make them, or anything else that would constitute abuse of power. There were plenty of missing items which he used to make them- oxygen tanks, wires, assemblies and such.

1. Koen did not follow the wishes of both in game high ranks, as well as the general sentiment of the faction leader of the faction they were playing at the time - the URF.
   
2. Koen attempted to defend themselves through the lens of calling random bombings an "event".
   
3. They resorted to attacking me personally, stating that I was quote, "Too afraid to deal with a situation you are not prepared for.", despite such a situation never coming to pass had they not acted out like this. It's like shooting the president and being confused when the secret service tackle you.
   

How this can be fixed? Simple again.

1. Koen needs to take more time before acting - think before you do something that could negatively effect the round of someone else, especially a civilian. Civilian players are often new, so the way you treat them will form their overall opinions on the server.
   
2. Koen needs to be calmer in a-helps, complaints, and other such things. See the second on moderation for more details.
   

Part Three: Devil's Advocate.
I would -never- post something here I didn't have fact checked. I am not here to slander Koenigsegg, as I hope I've made clear. I'm here to possibly help someone who's been around for a long time, longer than I have, improve how they act as staff. Koen, for all I've said here, is a great person to talk to, and was very helpful in getting me started in terms of learning admin commands. Without them, I likely wouldn't even still be around to make this complaint- which, to me, is a perfect segue in to what I feel is the core of this long ass college length paper of a complaint.

Koen, while a good member of staff, has a few issues which need to be resolved for them to act at their full potential as a member of Halo SSE's staff.

Part Four: Final Remarks and Addendum.
I want to once more make it clear that I am not trying to slander anyone. I wouldn't take the time to write this up if I wasn't sure the issue could be fixed. Koen, you're going to read this, and respond to it, I've no doubt. You've a right to defend yourself, and I'll happily listen to whatever you have for me. But whatever this ends up as, I want you to understand I've nothing personal against you, or any other member of staff. Besides Stingray. Fuck that guy.

Now, the hot topic. Why did I say Koen is contributing to the death of HSSE? Banning at first contact, curt and brash responses to players, and inability to step back and see things as a whole. This all makes players take one look at this server and then run for the hills as fast as stumpy 2D legs can carry them.

And finally - many people wanted me to add in cases of admin abuse. I did -not- do this, simply because they do not exist. Koen, to my knowledge, has never abused their power in game to harm someone else, or help themselves. They've also, to my knowledge, handled an adminhelp against who they're playing themselves, leaving it to other members of staff.

Koen, my guy. You're great. Please, don't take this as an attack on your personality or who you are. You've always been a great member of this server's community, for better or worse. But this trend of activity I've seen since I've returned is worrying - and rather than bitch and moan in discord like literally everyone else, I've decided to actually make a proper complaint so things might actually get done.

I was trapped with the Viceminister of Sanitation within the VT9 medbay, along with a grunt, while numerous humans including ODST were outside trying to come in to kill us. I was severely low on ammunition at the time, and the Viceminister told me to use a Confettimaker that was present in order to defend their life. I used the confettimaker in order to protect the prophet from death, and I was stripped by the admins mid-battle, which got me immediately killed. When I ahelped about this issue, Macto told me that even though it's a minor heresy and it was done by the order of a prophet with the intent to protect the prophet's life, I would never be allowed to do it. When I told him that I thought he was in the wrong about this, all I got was "cool." in response. It's a pretty unprofessional way to act,  and also pretty poor handling of it. Even if he had issue with it, he should have spoken to me AFTER, instead of wordlessly stripping me mid-fight, considering I had a prophet telling me to do it to defend their life.

Details of complaint: Date: 10/19/2018 Time: 11:50:58 (servertime) Me and my friend svensis were playing on here as insurrectionists, some time into the round the covenant boarded our ship forcefully, I shot at the grunt, instead of it retreating back to its ship, it ran up the stairs to the bridge, shot at sven who was in the bridge, sven threw a grenade at the hallway it was in, I threw a grenade but overshot it and it landed too close to the bridge. That grenade that I threw caused the damage to the bridge, no one died as far as I knew, I had to evac because the one in colossus armor shot at me. After I landed on KS7 I was stuck in a ravine like place so I just shot myself because I had to drive my dad to his friends place. When I got back sven was banned and we tried to talk it over on discord to the banning admin (Koenigsegg) but I was ignored by him even though I threw the grenade that caused the damage. Sven was called a liar and banned. Also IC they were going to let him die because an admin was handling him, isn't that meta? Even though he was innocent.
